FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Brigadiers Break Into Top 5 at DCA World Championships

Central Square, NY (September 5, 2007) - With an emotional and inspired Finals performance, The Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps completed the 2007 season at the DCA World Championships in Rochester, New York over the Labor Day weekend, placing 5th in the Finals competition.

In a year filled with its share of challenges, including a significant revision of the visual program shortly after the competitive season had begun, the Brigs spent much of the summer playing "catch up," slowly but surely refining and improving a demanding program with elements rarely seen in the all-age activity. The Brigs refused to succumb to any challenges placed before them, however, and battled into the upper echelons of DCA competition. At Finals, in true Brigadier fashion, the corps rose to the occasion and gave the crowd its most cohesive and exciting performance of the year, regaining a position in the elite top five all-age drum corps.

After the performance, Brass Caption Head Pete Blake said that "this was the Brigs' best performance in years. It's clear that this is a corps on the rise." "The energy from the corps during our Finals performance was simply thrilling – it was a terrific way to conclude this season and move into the exciting things we have planned for next year," noted Assistant Director Bruce McCready.

Corps Director Rick Martin added, "we continue to move forward as an organization – our continued success is a true testament to the amazing people that make up the Brigadiers, from marching members to instructional staff to our wonderful support staff and Alumni. It's truly an honor to be associated with all of these tremendous people and I am looking forward to 2008."

The Brigs were particularly thrilled that baritone soloist Genevieve Danis was awarded the DCA "Best Showmanship" award for her always-moving and awe-inspiring solo performance in the ballad, "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." The entire corps congratulates Genevieve for her well-deserved recognition – an acknowledgment of her achievements that has been long overdue.

The Brigs would also like to thank everyone who supported the corps throughout the 2007 season, especially the most exceptional support staff in the activity who keeps the corps fed, uniformed, and on the road, and our Alumni, the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, whose ongoing support this season has been invaluable.

The corps' administration and staff are already hard at work preparing for the 2008 season. Check the corps' website in the near future for information regarding the 2008 program and other exciting news of the Brigs' plans for 2008.

With roots dating to 1938, The Brigadiers Drum & Bugle Corps was reorganized in 1991 after a nineteen-year absence from competition. The Brigadiers are 5-time Drum Corps Associates World Champions, winning titles in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and are the only drum and bugle corps to ever win four consecutive DCA titles.
