Brigadiers Announce 2007 Drum Majors

Central Square, NY (April 16, 2007) - The Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce it drum majors for the 2007 season, Ryan Benz and John Leggett.

Ryan returns for his second year as podium drum major and his seventh year with the Brigs, where he began his marching career at the age of fourteen. In addition to his time with the Brigs, Ryan has also marched with the Grenadiers in DCA and the Cadets in DCI, where he was a trumpet soloist and was named Rookie of the Year in 2004. Ryan hails from Liverpool, New York and is currently pursuing his Bachelors degree in Trumpet Performance from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.

Joining Ryan is John Leggett, a long-time drum corps veteran and a member of the Brigs since 2003. John’s drum corps history dates back to the 1970s, having marched or taught numerous corps including the Cavaliers, the Kankakee (Ill.) Blackhawks, Spirit of 76 from Racine, Wisconsin, Des Plaines (Ill.) Vanguard, Hawthorne Caballeros, Schaumburg (Ill.) Guardsmen, Pioneer, Marion (Ohio) Cadets, and the Troopers of Casper, Wyoming.

John served as drum major of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Marching Band and his music education achievements include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, a Master's of Music in Music Theory, and a Master's of Science in Music/MultiMedia Technology. He is currently actively involved in music arrangement and work with MIDI computer systems. John is also a music and movement adjudicator for USSBA.

With roots dating to 1938, the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum & Bugle Corps was reorganized in 1991 after a nineteen-year absence from competition. The Brigadiers are 5-time Drum Corps Associates World Champions, winning titles in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and are the only drum and bugle corps to ever win four consecutive DCA titles.
